The UPWC is a non-partisan, diverse social organization which follows GFWC guidelines and participates in State and National GFWC volunteer activities and meetings. The purpose of the UPWC is to bring into communication and to unite local women for the purpose of mutual benefit, and for the promotion of their common interest in volunteer service. The UPWC organizes several highly anticipated annual events, awards scholarships to area students, and undertakes various volunteer activities in support of the GFWC's work in six main community service program areas.
The UPWC meets monthly, except for July, August and September. Club meetings are free and open to the public.
The UPWC sponsors several annual fund raising events. Funds raised support two scholarships for local high school youth, one scholarship for a non-traditional female student seeking to re-enter the workforce, and donations to local women-in-crisis shelters and national charities partnered with the GFWC and the MFWC.
The UPWC focus is on helping woman and children, education, and protecting the environment. We sponsor on-going volunteer activities to provide clothing and items needed by local Crisis Shelters for women and children and the homeless. The Club arranges for monthly guest speakers at Club meetings on topics outlined in GFWC guidance with the goal of educating members and local neighbors on these topics (arts, education, conservation, international affairs, home life and public issues.)
